Can eating sugary carbs make us look older?

Sadly the truth is it may well be true.

You will hear a lot of beauty experts talk about glycation this is a form of premature ageing, caused by an over load of sugar in the bloodstream.

Eating a high content of sweet foods like cakes and chocolate can cause glycation and this has been proven to break down collagen within the skin reducing the skin’s firmness and elasticity.

The British Journal of Dermatology reported that after the age of 35 yrs glycation in the skin increases and continues to do so as we get older. Worse- when we’re exposed to UV rays it accelerates glycation, further ageing the skin.

Glycation can also be associated with age spots, fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, inflammation and sagging skin due to loss of collagen and elasticity.

The obvious solution to protect our skins from the effects of glycation is to cut back on surgery foods and select low Glycemic foods increase the intake of foods rich in anti-oxidants like fruit and vegetable and avoid over sun exposure- not forgetting our SPF.

There may be some side effects you will be probably lose a few extra inches in the process.
